Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • First author must sign covering letter indicating full responsibility for paper submitted along with the contributory form duly signed by all authors.
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 10-point font; written in English and adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines. All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • Ensure that corresponding author is clearly marked. Full names, email addresses, affiliations and complete postal addresses of all authors have been included.
  • A declaration of any potential conflicts of interests.
  • Permission for use of text passages, figures, data or other material from the work of others, if they have been previously published, obtained by the submitting author.

Criteria for Manuscript

Submitted manuscripts must meet the following criteria:

  • Submission must be original unpublished work, including the illustrations, which it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • The writing must be clear, concise and unambiguous.
  • The data should be valid
  • The discussions and conclusions drawn by the authors must be reasonable and supportable.
  • The information must be relevant and interesting.

Manuscript Submission

Journal of Advanced Laboratory Research in Biology accepts manuscript submissions through Online Submissions. Registration and login are required to submit manuscript online.

Manuscript Preparation

All submissions must be prepared in English in Microsoft word compatible format. Typewritten using Times New Roman, font size of the headings should be of 12 point bold and the text must be in 10 point normal face. Single spaced should be followed with margins of at least 1 cm on all sides.

Text of the manuscript should be arranged in the following order:

  • Title page
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Manuscript body
  • Tables and Figure legend

Title page of the manuscript must include the following information:

Title: Title of the Manuscript should be short, specific and informative.
Running title (shortened form of the main title): A short running title of not more than 40 characters (including letters and spaces) should be given.
Authors name and Affiliations: Authors should be listed in order of contribution to the paper, by first name, then middle initial (if any), followed by last name and separated by commas. Use superscript numbers (1, 2, 3) to designate author affiliations and each affiliation should be in a separate paragraph. Use an asterisk (*) to identify the corresponding author, and be sure to include the e-mail address.
Abstract: Abstract contains the scope and methodology employed and key results in a complete and simple sentence and should not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be a single paragraph. Please do not use Citations and special symbols, mathematical formula, and equations in abstraction section.
Keywords: Keywords (must be given) contain Four to six words/phrases separated by a comma.

Manuscript body should be in two columns with 1 cm column spacing and should be justified. It Consists of following sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Result and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgment and References.

Introduction: A brief and precise literature review with the objectives of the research undertaken and essential background should constitute the introduction part.
Materials and Methods: Relevant details should be given including experimental design and the technique(s) used and clearly indicate the statistical methods used to summarize information for interpretation.
Result and Discussion: In Result and Discussion new findings, new interpretations etc. should be clearly spelled out and also confirmation of important concepts, models, theorems etc. should be indicated. It should be coherently presented and appropriately linked to tables, figures and other illustrations, but restricted to the bare minimum. Present data according to standard formats as dictated by the experimental design and the data analysis carried out.
Conclusion: The main findings of the investigations reported in the paper and briefly discuss the limitations of the research and Future Scope for improvement.
Acknowledgment: This heading is not assigned a number. Acknowledgements include details of research funding sources if applicable and about any technical or intellectual assistance provided through others those have no rights of authorship for this research. It can include presenting the gratitude towards your guide/team mates/at back end support.
Conflicts of Interest: Authors must identify and declare any personal circumstances or interest  in the manuscript in a paragraph heading "Conflicts of Interest" (after Acknowledgment section and before References) that may be perceived as inappropriately influencing the representation or interpretation of reported research results. If there is no conflict of interest, please state "The authors declare no conflict of interest."
References: This heading is not assigned a number. Only cited text references are included. Each reference is referred to in the text by a number enclosed in a square bracket (i.e., [1]). References are ordered according to where they are first mentioned in the paper, NOT alphabetically. For papers published in translation journals, please give the English citation first, followed by the original foreign-language citation. Unless there are six authors or more give all authors' names; do not use “et al.”. The reference list should only include works that have been published or accepted for publication and cited as “in press”. Personal communications (or any unpublished work) should only be mentioned in the text. References should be listed in the following format:

Article in Scientific Journal:
Author, A.A., Author, B.B., & Author, C.C., (Year). Title of the article. Abbreviated journal title, volume(issue): firstpage-lastpage. DOI of the article.
Book:
Author, A.A., (Year). Title of the book (edition). Location: Publisher.
Book Chapter:
Author, A.A., (Year). Title of the chapter. In A.A. Editor & B.B. Editor, (Eds.), Title of the book (edition, pp. firstpage-lastpage). Location: Publisher.
Dissertation/Thesis:
Author, A.A., (Year). Title of dissertation/thesis. Retrieved from name of database.

Headings and Subheadings: Headings and subheadings, starting with "1. Introduction", initially capitalized and should be set in bold and aligned left. All headings from the Introduction to Conclusion are numbered sequentially using 1, 2, 3, etc. Subheadings are numbered 1.1, 1.2, etc. If a subsection must be further divided, the numbers 1.1.1, 1.1.2, etc. The font size for heading is 11 points bold face and subsections with 10 points and not bold. Do not underline any of the headings, or add dashes, colons, etc.
Figure and Table: To ensure a high-quality, diagrams and lettering must be computer-drafted. Figure captions appear below the figure, are flush left, and are in lower case letters. When referring to a figure in the body of the text, the abbreviation "Fig." is used. Figures should be numbered in the order they appear in the text. Table captions appear centered above the table in upper and lower case letters. When referring to a table in the text, no abbreviation is used and "Table" is capitalized.
Equations and Units: All equations are numbered and referred to in the text solely by a number enclosed in a round bracket (i.e., (1) reads as "equation 1"). Equations should be indented at the left margin and numbered at the right margin and defined in a clear and understandable way. Ensure that any miscellaneous numbering system you use in your paper cannot be confused with a reference [1] or an equation (1) designation. SI Units (International System of Units) should be used. Other units should be converted to SI units whenever possible.
Proofs: The corresponding author will receive a PDF proof and is asked to check this proof carefully (the publisher will execute a cursory check only). Proof should be corrected and returned as soon as possible.

Research Ethics

Research Involving Human: Research involving human subjects, human material, or human data, must have been performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki (http://www.wma.net/en/30publications/10policies/b3/index.html) and must have been approved by an appropriate ethics committee. A statement detailing this, including the name of the ethics committee and the reference number where appropriate, should be cited in the Methods Section of the article. If the manuscript contains private information e.g., photographs of participants, a written informed consent for publication must be obtained from participating patients in this case.
Ethical Guidelines for the Use of Animals: For research papers using animals the “Interdisciplinary Principles and Guidelines for the Use of Animals in Research, Testing and Education” issued by the New York Academy and Sciences` Adhoc Committee on Animal Research should be followed.

Authors Declaration

Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has been neither published nor submitted for publication, in whole or in part, either in a serial, professional journal or as a part in a book which is formally published and made available to the public. For the mutual benefit and protection of authors and publishers it is necessary that authors provide formal written consent to publisher and transfer of copyright form after acceptance of papers.

Manuscript Withdrawal Policy

By submission, the author grants the journal right of first publication. Therefore, the journal discourages unethical withdrawal of manuscript from the publication process after peer review.
Author may wish to withdraw his manuscript after submitting it to Society of Open Science. To withdraw a manuscript we do not charge any fee, only if he/she withdraws it within a week. If an author withdraws manuscript after a week, then he/she will be asked to pay partial processing fee. Each and every manuscript submission costs us (Society of Open Science) certain amount along with overhead cost during processing. Manuscripts peer review process is completed (which can often happen within 4 weeks), and it has been worked into a journal issue, we have incurred costs on our end that need to be reimbursed. We ask authors to pay 50% of the original article processing fee in case of withdrawal.
